Undeservedly little known discovery...

Isaac Levitan in his time was an acknowledged master of his realistic and at the same highly emotive idiom, and is well worth the minor cost to study some of his paintings. Useful not just for landscape but for meditation on composition, form, texture, and color. Highly recommended!

Levitan is now easily portable

Well, I'm a sucker for Levitan. I went to Moscow a few years ago to see the show of his work in celebration of his 150th birthday, and it really was amazing. Quite simply the finest landscape painter ever, in my opinion. This is just a good, fairly comprehensive collection of the work, available on any Kindle with a color screen. I look at them all the time, and like having an easy way to be sure to have Levitan's art around me.

Another great Russian Painter.. He has a wonderful eye for all landscapes where ever he might be living or travelling. Sometimes
the pictures in the book seem a little repetitious ,but over all , as I love landscape painting I enjoyed the book.

About the Author

Jeanne Ellis Ormrod received her A.B. in psychology from Brown University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in educational psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. She earned licensure in school psychology through postdoctoral work at Temple University and the University of Colorado at Boulder and has worked as a middle school geography teacher and school psychologist. She was Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado until 1998 and is currently Professor Emerita in UNC’s School of Psychological Sciences. She has published numerous research articles on cognition and memory, cognitive development, and giftedness, but she is probably best known for this textbook and four others: Educational Psychology: Developing Learners (now in its seventh edition); Human Learning (now in its fifth edition); Child Development and Education (co-authored with Teresa McDevitt, now in its fourth edition); and Practical Research (co-authored with Paul Leedy, now in its ninth edition). After raising three children (two of whom have become teachers themselves), she now lives in New Hampshire with her husband Richard and occasionally teaches courses at the University of New Hampshire.

The loose-leaf pages are very thin. VERY thin. If you try to highlight important concepts the ink easily bleeds through and makes the text very difficult to read. They also tear easily so don't turn the pages too quickly in your binder.

As for the content, it's littered with jargon and not very practical. This is a required text for a course I'm currently taking and my professor even states that many times it goes "too in depth". If you want to get down to the nitty gritty and learn every desirable detail about psychology in education, go for it, but don't expect this book to clearly outline techniques you can put to use in your classroom.

Dont buy this

This e-book is awful. bought this thinking it was the real text book, but i thought it couldnt be that bad! I was completely wrong. The format is terrible, its almost impossible to navigate though. You cant use your mouse to scroll up once you scrolled down. it looks like it was made in the 1990's with this terrible format. the index and chapters are super annoying, and save yourself the time, money and stress and find the actual textbook. if this wasnt for a college class, i would have never gotten it.

This is the quintessential book on noncitizen voting. Hayduk's research is unparalleled and his writing is eloquent and clear. As the movement to restore voting rights for noncitizens (in local elections) continues to gain momentum, this book will inform policymakers, researchers, students, and the public about this issue. This is indeed the authoritative text on this subject. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in immigrant voting rights or is looking for a persuasive work on progressive politics/inclusive democracy. I used this book for my own research and it was extremely helpful.

Anti-American, Should be written in Chinese

The premise is all illegal aliens should have the right to vote.

I bought the book to see if there were any legitimate reason why this should be so.

There was none presented other than the deafening tones of the Internationale.

Sadly, this is the tune sung by Obama, most Democrats who favor personal power over betterment of country, and all members of La Raza.

It is a sad commentary that so many of our votes are now being exercised in some precincts by those who wrongfully do so - sort of "vote stealing", right along with the welfare, health care and other rights that should go only to citizens and lawful residents in my humble opinion.

It Came Early! :)

I was pretty shocked to get this early in the mail! This book is amazing and it has several watercolor painting tutorials. However, this book is not a how to draw manga book, which was fine with me. If you are looking for book that explains painting with watercolors I would recommend this book to anyone that is fan of fantasy or manga style art. This book is really helpful if you have some background knowledge in painting because it is one step up from a beginners tutorial painting book. If you are beginner, you might want to pick up this book to have on hand once you get better. :) Also this tutorial painting book covers fantasy based artwork so it's pretty true to the title of the book.

The tutorial steps are not as long compare to Shojo Wonder Manga Art school but I think that is because Ecthelian uses more layers with Copic markers to get textures or certain shades of color through blending.

If you are looking for a how to draw or use Copic markers tutorial book, you should pick up Ecthelian's other book Shojo Wonder Manga Art School.

What does this book cover:

-Eastern and Western Fantasy Characters (The book focuses on characters more then background settings.)

A treat for any fan of Annie's :)

I love Supittha "Annie" Bunyapen's work. I've followed her for years on deviantArt, and I have her other book as well (highly recommended, by the way).

That said, her demonstrations are my favorite part of this book. Not only do we get a clear view of some of her beautiful works, but we even get a FULLY EXPLAINED, step by step, WIP (work in progress) type breakdown that most people can only hope for with their favorite artists. We see step by step what she did, how she did it, and very often, WHY she did it. So for a fan of Annie, this book is FANTASTIC.

To the budding artist, I would say that this book is more appropriate for someone who has past "beginner" and is making steady progress towards "intermediate". She explains things well and you get to see her thought process, but many of these would be difficult to apply if you don't already have a steady foundation of your own with regards to shading, color palettes, anatomy, etc.

To those who don't deal in copic markers, NEVER FEAR. A lot of what she says can be tweaked slightly to fit PaintTool Sai, Photoshop, whatever it is that you use. :)

Learn to Watercolor, not Draw

Get it for learning how to watercolor, not for how to draw. 1-2 pages on subjects like body types and clothing wrinkles barely scratch the surface of how to draw, but the watercolor step-by-steps are fantastic.

About the Author

Ken A. Dill is Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his undergraduate training at MIT, his PhD from the University of California, San Diego, and did postdoctoral work at Stanford. A leading researcher in biopolymer statistical mechanics and protein folding, he has been the President of the Biophysical Society and received the Hans Neurath Award from the Protein Society in 1998.

Sarina Bromberg received her BFA at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, her PhD in molecular biophysics from Wesleyan University, and her postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. She writes, edits and illustrates scientific textbooks.

This is an excellent book

Dill and Bromberg's effort is extraordinary. I don't think there are other text books out there that explain complex matters in such a rigorous but accessible way. I would recommend this book to anyone who's taking an undergrad or grad course in thermodynamics, statistical thermodynamics or anything remotely similar, as this book will really enlight you. It may happen because of the main text, the examples or the exercises, but it will happen.
I've had the chance to read both the first and second edition. Information has been reorganized a little bit and the new chapters are great. Go get this book.

Great Physical Chemistry Book

This book is very easy to understand and has plenty of examples imbedded within the text. Perfect for upper division physical chemistry classes. I bought this specifically for a class but found that I enjoyed reading it. Dill (the author) lays out the facts of physical chemistry almost like a story that is fascinating to read.

Great book at an intro level on the topic

Ken Dill brings a unique perspective to what he does, and focuses a great deal on making material accessible and easily understandable. That's true of this book, which is really excellent and well-regarded. What the book does well is clearly explain what it touches on, with examples, toy models, and interesting applications. However, it by no means covers every topic that could possibly be covered, nor does it necessarily provide every detail one might like. So if you are after a book that provides a complete picture of the area, this is not the book for you. On the other hand, if you're after a great introduction (at a level a talented, advanced undergraduate student in the sciences can understand) to this area, this is the book for you.

About the Author
John W. Santrock received his Ph.D. from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. He taught at the University of Charleston and the University of Georgia before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has worked as a school psychologist and currently teaches developmental psychology and educational psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and introductory psychology at the undergraduate level. Dr. Santrock's research on father custody is widely cited and used in expert witness testimony to promote flexibility and alternative considerations in custody disputes. His research has included publication in the Journal of Educational Psychology that focus on the contextual aspects of affectively-toned cognition and children's self-regulatory behavior as well as teachers' perceptions of children from divorced families. it takes the fun out of child development

The paperback version is nice because it's cheaper... but after reading it, I think I would prefer the hard cover. Paperback books of a small size are fine, but this one is too large to work as a paperback. I have a hard time reading it because if I put it on my lap it sort of flops over and I can't see the whole page.

As to the content... I found it to be a little insulting. A lot of the points the text makes are sort of trite and obvious. It says things like "children are our future." This is true, but it doesn't seem like something that needs to be said in a college level textbook.

It looks pretty, with nice pictures and quotes in the margins, but there just doesn't seem to be much substance. I think a topic as interesting as child development should have a more interesting book.

It is a good book overall for anyone who either needs it for a psychology class or is interested in working with children. It is very useful and has a lot of useful facts, plus the price is a steal for a brand new copy.
